National We Day: April 1st, 2015.

This was my 2nd year photographing the National We Day event in Ottawa at the Canadian Tire Centre, April 1st, 2015.

What is We Day?
We Day is the movement of our time, empowering a generation of young global citizens through an inspirational event and a year-long educational initiative.

You can’t buy a ticket to We Day—you earn it through service. Through the year-long We Act program, schools and groups take on one local and one global action and report back to Free The Children to earn their way to We Day.

The energy and motivation in the arena just makes me want to come back every year. Seeing kids support each other, in their communities and globally, is definitely a refreshing change.1 MelanieShieldsPhotographyOttawa-1551

Snowflake Ball, February 14th, 2015 at the Hilton Lac-Leamy

Third Floor York had the pleasure of being asked to photograph this year’s Snowflake Ball on February 14th, 2015 with a “Springtime in Paris” theme. The Snowflake Ball is one of Ottawa’s most glamourous and one of Canada’s most prestigious and breathtakingly beautiful charity balls.

It was an evening of unsurpassed glamour and all the dazzling romance of a Parisian Spring at the extraordinary Valentine’s Day ball held at the Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec.

The ball supports awareness and ground-breaking research for pediatric IBD (a group of inflammatory disorders that includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) and helps to save lives by promoting early screening for colon cancer. Proceeds benefit the world-class Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre and Screen Colons Canada.

Sportsnet NHL Launch Event

A few weeks ago Rogers and Sportsnet held an event at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier to share the details of their first season as the official broadcaster of all NHL hockey games. In attendance were NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, six-time Stanley Cup winner Mark Messier, Hockey Night in Canada hosts Ron Macleans and George Stroumboulopoulos, and many other Rogers executives. Everyone wanted to talk to Maclean, take a photo with Messier, flirt with Strombo, and give Bettman a piece of their mind!
